The next school year (2005-06) will begin with two resolutions taken from the remaining, unused topics of last year (2004-2005). Judging from past years the September-October 2005 topic will be announced around August 1, 2005, and the November-December 2005 topic will be announced approximately October 1, 2005.
My personal best guess is that the immigration and public health topics will be the Fall 2005 topics, but any two of the seven topics below could be selected. I have provided links below to human rights aspects of each of these seven remaining topics, together with some research ideas.
See also the 2006 topic outlines elsewhere at this site for the resolutions that will form the basis of the Jan-Feb, Mar-Apr and May-June (Nationals) 2006 topics.
Here are the seven outlines I've prepared for the 2005 topic possibilities:
1. Judicial activism is necessary to protect the rights of American citizens.
2. In the United States, jury nullification is justified.
3. The welfare of employees justifies government regulation of business in a free market economy.
4. When in conflict, public health ought to be prioritized over intellectual property rights.
6. Progressive taxation is just.
7. On balance, government censorship of sexually explicit material is justified.
