UN Human Rights Developments, 2006

tent

This year may prove to be one of the most significant in UN history in shaping new structures to address human rights. The Commission met in its final session in March (62nd session). The new Human Rights Council will convene its first session beginning June 19, 2006. The Sub-Commission on Promotion and Protection of Human Rights is scheduled to convene its 57th session in August 2006. The new Peacebuilding Commission will begin its activities (in New York). And the treaty body system is also under discussions on reform. Some dates and details are not yet set. We will be following the latest developments on this website.

Note that if the Sub-Commission meets in August 2006, the Minnesota Advocates will probably be co-hosting a Forum in Geneva the weekend before the session begins, to help brief NGOs, experts and other interested persons on the latest developments. This Forum would probably be held August 5-6, 2006. If you are interested in attending or contributing please check this website from time to time for further details.
